Michael Laed

Michael Laed is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice has evolved from his early roots in sustainable fashion to encompass hand-built ceramic lamps, lighting sculptures, and textile works. A self-taught ceramicist, Laed is known for creating one-of-a-kind lighting pieces that blur the line between functional object and sculptural form. Each piece is deeply personal, and is a reflection of his commitment to craftsmanship, material experimentation, and storytelling.

His work is defined by an intimate attention to form, color, and texture, often featuring custom glazes made from natural and found materials.

Drawing inspiration from personal relationships, everyday rituals, and a childhood spent between California and Southern France, Laed’s work reflects a layered and emotional connection to place, memory, and process. His ongoing exploration of materials is fueled by a desire to push the boundaries of traditional craft, continually redefining what handmade can mean.
