Studio Assistant — Job Description

JOB TITLE: GALLERY/STUDIO ASSISTANT

TIWA Select is seeking a passionate, organized, and enthusiastic Studio Assistant to support the daily operations of our gallery and event space in Tribeca, New York City.

This role is essential for ensuring the gallery runs smoothly, supporting the Founder, Alex, and enhancing the overall client experience. We are looking for a proactive individual with a strong interest in art, design, and craft who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. As our business grows, this position offers opportunities for skill development and deeper involvement in gallery operations.

Responsibilities:—

  • Gallery Assistant: Oversee the gallery during opening hours, performing opening and closing procedures, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment. Manage the gallery calendar, answer phone calls, and monitor the studio@ email inbox for scheduling appointments and directing sales or event inquiries to the appropriate team members. Greet visitors, provide exhibition information, and address client inquiries.
  • Event Assistant: Assist in the planning and execution of gallery events, including setup, breakdown, and logistics. Coordinate pick-ups, deliveries, and drop-offs of event materials. Note: Hours may vary based on event schedules, with additional evening hours compensated separately for select events.
  • Inventory, Shipping & Order Fulfillment: Work closely with the Founder to manage order shipments and ensure a seamless fulfillment process. Assist in maintaining inventory, sales records, loans, and consignments.
  • Artwork Handling: Support the handling, installation, and deinstallation of artworks. Collaborate with the Founder on packing, storage, and preparing pieces for display.
  • Personal Assistant: Support the Founder with calendar management, travel coordination, reasonable personal errands, and email correspondence. Ensure you are maintaining trust and handling tasks with care and efficiency.

Our Ideal Candidate:—

  • 1-2 years of experience in an assistant capacity, gallery operations, customer service, or a related field.
  • Friendly and approachable, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, artists, and team members.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize effectively.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Proficient in using Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs).
  • Interest in learning more about art, design, and gallery operations.
  • Willingness to be flexible and respond to needs after hours and on weekends as required.

Compensation and Schedule:—

  • This is a part-time position based in Tribeca, Manhattan. The role has a flexible schedule of 28–32 hours per week*. The gallery is open to the public Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon–5 pm. We expect the individual to work 10-5 pm 4 days / week. *Please note that hours may vary depending on event schedules, with additional evening hours required for select events and events paid separately.
  • $23/hour compensation, based on experience.
